Help us spread the word about Cerebral Palsy

Postby Clarified » Sat Mar 20, 2010 7:11 pm

My name is Claire Theriot Mestepey. I’m a wife and mother and I have cerebral palsy. I’m asking you to take a moment to read this and you believe in this cause, please vote. Two years ago I started Disability Insights, teaching disability etiquette to different audiences with humor and compassion. (www.disabilityinsights.com) I feel that having Cerebral Palsy, gives me a very unique perspective as I share my knowledge and stories.
As part of our program I taught this course at the Harris Co. Sheriffs Detention Academy until the new Sheriff was elected, and decided not to renew my contract. But while teaching this class, seeing the Cadet’s changing attitudes about Cerebral Palsy change right in front of me, I realized that my message of knowledge, understanding and never judging a book by its cover, may be needed to be heard at elementary schools as well. With this, I hope to win a Pepsi Refresh Everything Grant so that I will be able to start a kids program.
If you have a moment please look at my submission at http://www.refresheverything.com/clairetheriotmestepey and if you believe in my cause please vote. Or join our facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/gro ... 1828767863

Thanks so much for your time!

Hi there, I think what you're doing is fantastic. If we can only educate people more about CP there'll be more understanding and acceptance, and you most certainly are doing your part in getting the word out and who better to do so than someone with CP themselves. Well done :D I don't think there is anyone in Australia doing something like you are, well not that I am aware of. I just do a small part by educating those around us that we meet day to day, but my daughter is still only 3, I have a whole lot of learning to still do myself.

I put a vote in that link for you, I really hope you get the funding you need.
