Job accomodations

Postby cdodom » Thu Jul 30, 2009 12:05 pm

Hi, there!

I'm a job coach with an employment training and support program in Austin, TX and I'm stumped when it comes to one of my clients. He has moderate Cerebral Palsy and thus can't seem to put a glove on his left hand independently. It doesn't benefit him having me do it for him every day so I've been searching around for something that will protect his hand from potentially dangerous substances while allowing him to put on and take off the glove or glove-like thing by himself.

Does anyone have any ideas or experiences to share that may help us out?

Hi, I can't think of anything off the top of my head. Have you asked the client how it could be made easier?

I have not, but I will when I work with him this afternoon. He is hearing impaired and knows no sign language, so communication is sometimes difficult. He also has some significant intellectual disabilities, further complicating the scenario. Hopefully, he'll have some insight, though.
