switch-adapted toys

Postby kate » Sun Sep 27, 2009 8:59 am

I am a special education teacher and I've worked for many years with children with cerebral palsy. In my experience I found that switch adapted toys play a great deal in a therapy part. Children who use switch adapted toys are more motivated to practice range of motions, to practice crossing their mid-line, more attentive and focused.

I totally agree with Kate. I am a special education teacher and I use switch adapted toys with my students a lot.

switch-adapted toys

Postby num1dad_cp » Tue Sep 29, 2009 8:12 pm

I have heard that from many people, including our current OT. However, we have had little luck finding fun toys that our 9 year old girl would enjoy. Most companies out there, such as ablenet and Flaghouse, are pretty expensive and have a limited selection of toys.

I would really appreciate any leads if you happen to know of any other alternatives.

thank you in advance.

Kids love toys. They love to play games. Kids with disabilities have the same needs and desires. Switch adapted toys make it possible for children to use and enjoy different kinds of toys without asking for help.

One of my friend sent her daughter who suffers from a cerebral palsy to the Psychological Center for Special Children in town two years ago. Although, the motivation of the child has gradual changes after several therapies, my friend is still worried about her daughter's situation. I would try to suggest her about what you found out on switch adapted toys, I think this could help the child a lot.
