Hi my Son is 2 years old and has left sided hemiplegia. He has been walking well for about 3 months and was getting stronger all the time, but over the last 4 days he has had a setback. He cant walk when he gets up out of bed in the morning and his foot is pointed out a lot more plus his balance has been affected, he has gone back over and is back like he was 3 months ago when he just started walking. This has happened over night and both his Mummy and I are very worried and can't understand why this has happened.

Can anyone help explain what this might be please....

My daughter is 13 months old and has quad. spastic CP. Her spasticity has worsened over the past month and all her therapists etc are worried - but can't get her in to a specialist until Feb next year! Ofcourse, no one seems to have an answer. The only thing they can think of at this stage is maybe due to her huge growth spurt (she has grown in length by 5 cms in the last 3 monhts). Maybe your son has been through a growth spurt? - from what I've read on the net, when kids with CP have a sudden growth spurt, their muscles tend to get stiffer as they can't catch up as quickly. This can cause some temporary setbacks, and will require extra physio etc. See your physio and ask about it???

He has got better over the past week but he is still not back to how he was before, I do think he has grew over that past month so this could be the reason. I wasn't sure if cold weather could have caused it, we had really cold weather here in the UK and I had my son out on his sledge.
